Project (I don’t know the name of this)

microphone That last few days have been kind of very unusual. I have had dreams about talking to some famous food photographers and seeing some of you sitting in this coffee shop in a small circle listening to the advice these photographers share. Then I have also dreamt that I am sitting in a airplane and the safety announcement is in my voice. Sigh! Side effects of listening to your own voice over and over again, while editing those audio interviews for umhs and ahs.

The Project

So these dreams and thoughts and daydreams… all point to one direction. No! not love. A new project. What is this project? Something I have been wanting to do more and more. Last few food photography and styling interviews have been so useful to me and I hope, to you as well, that I have made up my mind to do more of these. In fact, my goal with this project is to interview every outstanding food photographer and food stylist in the world. The keyword is outstanding – these artists whose photography/styling work is amazing and really moves people.

I strongly believe as a student of photography we have a lot to learn from outstanding photographers as well as by looking, observing, seeing and studying stunning photos. By doing these interviews I hope you would get to know these food photographers and learn from them.

But I have a problem…

… and I don’t think I will be able to solve it without you. Yes, you! Well here’s the problem. I don’t know what to call this thing. We need a name for this project. What should we call this thing? What should be the name of this project? Something to do with food, but then it should also relate to interviewing… Can you help? Suggest a name or two (or three) in the comments below.

  1. Through the lens and into your mouth.

    Taste with the eyes.

    Ready, set, snap.

    See it, taste it.

  2. what about “Masterclass food photography” ?

  3. food porn 101 !

  4. All, Thank you for these wonderful suggestions. I am going to wait couple of more days for some more suggestions.

  5. Came across this through a bit of a convaluted way of twitter referrals – and love it – so thought I’d drop in my 2 pence worth of name suggestions.

    1. If you were talking the interviewing side further you could do it as as series of ‘Talking about …’ in this case ‘the perfect picture of taste’

    2. Something like ‘Why a picture paints a 1000 herbs’

    3. The meaning of this one depends on the reader ‘Picture Perfect Words’

Hope you find a good name for it as it’s a facinating subject area ~ I must away to my own challange – trying to bake the perfect macaroon ~ right now your project is definitely going better ….

  6. Here’s my suggestion:
Food And Photography – An In-depth Journey.
    My thoughts:
Thought a title which was to the point would tell someone new exactly what it is about. Its food, its photography. In-depth means detailed exploration and journey points towards a destination, learning along the way.

    :)

    • Thank you Aparna. Love the thought behind the name. This resonates a lot with what the project is about. Food Photography ( and styling) is what this is about and will be a long journey (to photograph every food photographer). Thank you for your thoughts.

  7. How about, ‘Don’t Just Eat It.’? Or something simple and somewhat intriguing (if you’re not going to ‘just eat it’, then what are you going to do with it? Namely, style and photograph it!)

  8. Eat that pic
