Great interview, thanks guys! I learned a lot, Scott’s work is very inspiring. I’d like to have heard a bit more of the last segment about business matters, maybe Scott could come back for another chat sometime and expand on that?

    • Thank you Simon. Will surely ask Scott to come back after couple of months to talk more and learn more from him.

  • The photographs are outstanding and “jump” out at you.

    • Thank you. I specially like the second photo – which we deconstructed as well. Love the shapes and lines.

    Hi Neel,

I just found your site and am so glad I did. I’ve been looking for a more in depth food photography site for a while now and am thrilled by (and bookmarked), yours.

Great interview, really cool to hear a “food photographer on the ground” perspective and I definitely learned a lot that I’ll use in my own work.

A few things that I would have liked to hear more about in this interview is how he reconciles restaurant lighting with natural light, when the objects that he photographs are lit by both. Sometimes in a restaurant these two lights blend and it gets really hard to get a correct white balance later.

The other thing I would like to hear more about is his post-production work. Obviously it’s important to get great images in camera, but more and more work goes into “post”, particularily when establishing a personal style, and he has a great one.

Again thanks for the interview and the site and keep up the good work.

    • Thank you Shea. Glad that you liked the site. Those are some great topics. We’ll try to do another interview with Scott after few months. Thank you for your comments.

  • Neel,

Thanks again for taking the time to interview me and post some of my images. You have a truly fantastic site- keep up the great work! Also a big thank you to all those that took the time to listen and view.

    Bon Appetit and Happy Shooting!

    Scott

i loved this interview with scott.
such a great guy. i would really like to hear more about the business side of food photography.
i just booked my first big gig with a local restaurant and i am not sure how to go about charging them.
i told them that i would work for trade, since i’m still building my portfolio.
but what is the appropriate compensation for my work?

  • If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

  • An intriguing discussion is worth comment. I do believe that you need to write more about this issue, it might not be a taboo matter but generally people do not speak about these issues. To the next! Best wishes!!

  • It’s nearly impossible to find educated people on this subject, however, you seem like you know what you’re talking about! Thanks

  • The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

  • Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

  • I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

  • May I simply say what a relief to find somebody who genuinely knows what they are talking about on the net. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. A lot more people need to check this out and understand this side of your story. I can’t believe you’re not more popular since you surely possess the gift.

  • It’s nearly impossible to find knowledgeable people in this particular topic, however, you seem like you know what you’re talking about! Thanks

  • I must thank you for the efforts you’ve put in writing this site. I really hope to check out the same high-grade blog posts from you later on as well. In truth, your creative writing abilities has inspired me to get my very own blog now 😉

  • Hello, i think that i saw you visited my weblog thus i came to “return the favor”.I’m trying to find
things to enhance my website!I suppose its ok to use a few of
    your ideas!!

  • The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  • Very good article. I absolutely love this site. Thanks!

  • Hey There. I found your blog using msn. This is a really
well written article. I’ll be sure to bookmark it and come back to read more of your useful info.
