I love your article, good photo selection. I am doing a dessert photo shoot soon, so I was looking for some inspiration and advice
Delicious photos, indeed… but can you help me understand something…
the photo of “Ice Cream”… I guess it is creative to tilt your view; however, to my eye, I find it difficult to get used to. I feel like the ice cream will slide off the plate. How do you assess when this is acceptable or unacceptable or is it simply the creative whim of the photographer?
Fay; Please do not fret, the ice cream is firmly secured to the plate and will not slide off regardless of the angle that you hold hour head. HINT: Do not tilt your head, instead, tilt the monitor, but be careful that you do not slide off your chair. SORRY – I couldn’t help myself. NO reflection on you Fay – just my “sick” humour. Actually, I agree with you, I don’t find the depiction of the iced cream appealing and it almost induces Vertigo. Nor is it immediately apparent that the iced cream is the subject, or is the only subject, (due to the angle – ?? ). Sorry again Fay, no harm intended.
Neel; Just wanted to say that I’ve been a ‘follower’ for more than a year and have yet to make a comment
on any of the hundreds of articles that I have read. My point is that there are likely hundreds or more
people such as myself who enjoy and benefit from your hard work, yet say nothing. It’s only because it’s
not in our nature to do so, at least not on a regular basis. So, from all of us mutes, THANK YOU and try
to keep in mind that we are out there.
HAPPY NEW YEAR ! NEEL, AND TO ALL OF YOUR READERS – FROM WHOM I OFTEN LEARN FROM AS WELL.

I do not find these to be appealing. In the world of food photography, I would give these a C-. Go check out Donna Hay for some beautiful food photography.
